Elisha & Stephen's Bless The Dress Underwater Shoot | Sunshine Coast

Water, water everywhere...etc etc.
When we had scheduled to do our pre-wedding shoot it was raining heavily and wet everywhere so we cancelled. But it was too close to Elisha and Stephen's wedding to reschedule so I offered an underwater photography session for after their wedding, they were delighted to accept - the only stipulation being that they had to be wearing the clothes they got married in. Kinda like a 'trash the dress' thing, except I don't like the idea of trashing the dress so much as 'blessing the dress' or 'cherishing the dress'.

So we caught up after they got back from their honeymoon (the day after actually) and headed for the pool. Even though they were feeling a little poorly they did some amazing stuff, had great fun and we made some beautiful images...thanks guys x

Elisha & Stephen's Noosa Wedding | Sunshine Coast Wedding Photographer

Elisha & Stephen were married in Noosa at the Laguna Lookout point, which by all accounts could be the first and last wedding held there. You see the Sunshine Coast Council made a bit of a 'cock-up' when they gave permission for the ceremony to be held there as they didn't have the authority to do so as it was a National Park. They tried to take it away (at short notice) but Elisha, Stephen & Co are made of stern stuff and stuck to their guns! And what a fabulous decision, because the lookout provided a perfect backdrop with perfect weather for a perfect wedding day.
I had such fun with these guys - I know it's a cliche to say that I have the best job in the world, but I do and I love days like these!

Alana & Alex's pre-wedding shoot | Noosa Wedding Photographer

I caught up with Alana & Alex last week for their pre-wedding shoot. We had a chat about their Noosa Heads wedding in a couple of weeks, discussing the details etc whilst keeping an eye on the weather hoping to get some nice light for their pre-wedding shoot. Well as we dashed out the clouds were forming fast and I really thought we'd blown it - we were heading for a couple of spots I had in mind when I noticed we only had maybe 10-15 minutes before the sun was going to disappear. I screeched to halt as I saw this paddock and we all went rushing out to where this beautiful last light was falling. The following images were captured in those 10-15 minutes.....beautiful :)

They say it never rains, it pours. That certainly is true for the afternoon I caught up with Katie & Paul for their pre-wedding photography shoot. It had been a wonderfully sunny day right up to the moment we were due to to head out! Armed with an umbrella we attempted a few shots in the downpour before heading undercover.

Meet Jacqueline & Paul who I caught up with last week for their pre-wedding shoot. Now from the off Jacqueline put me under pressure by telling me she doesn't look good in photographs (a cry I often hear from my brides and is always untrue) and that I've really got my work cut-out. I think you'll all agree Jacqueline looks beautiful (and of course Paul does too :).
In any case, it's not just about the people looking good in the photographs, it's the connection between the couple that is beautiful - and you can just see that in these images.

Aimee & Scott were married at a very windy Shelly Beach, it's a testament to the hairdresser that all the girls' hairs still looked immaculate all day - needless to say the boy's hair also remained good all day too!
I caught up with the boys first in Moffat Beach and met Tommy Wong! The girls got ready at The Crowne Plaza before heading to the beach to be married by celebrant Paula Koda.
The reception was at Pelican Waters Golf Club.

Sarah & Cam's Flaxton Gardens Wedding | Sunshine Coast Photographer

I've been lucky enough to photograph several weddings in the Maleny, Montville and Flaxton area this year and everyone of them have been beautiful weddings. Sarah & Cam's wedding in particular had it all - colour, emotion by the bucket load and two people very much in love and made for each other.
I started with the boys who more than laid back when I caught up with them at Montville Grove (I did have to gee them up a tad!).
Sarah and the girls got ready, hair & make-up by Vicki Nellis at The Spotted Chook in Montville which provided alot of colour with the beautifully decorated rooms. Also the colour was provided by Deluxe Kombi Vans.
The wedding took place at Flaxton Gardens - one of many fantastic wedding venues in the hinterland.

Danielle & Kieren's Coolum Beach Wedding | Sunshine Coast Photographer

Danielle & Kieren got married on Coolum Beach on such a beautifully sunny day. We started off at the boys in Coolum before photographing Danielle having her make-up done at the plaza and then onto the girls at a unit over looking the ocean. After the ceremony we got into Kieren's speed boat and went onto the sand bar - the place where he proposed to Danielle.
Then to the Ebb Restaurant on Duporth Avenue for the reception, where I heard probably one of the best groom's speeches I've ever. You can see a few of the expressions from that speech below - it was all I could do to avoid getting swept up in the emotion to keep photographing what was going on!

This is a shot from Jacinta & Bayu's studio photography session. They wanted a more traditional photograph to go with their wedding day images so we went with a dark background to really bring out all the intricate embroidery in Jacinta's dress.
In an age when everyone is going for 'something different' by having outdoor photography sessions, it was actually quite refreshing to do a studio shoot - maybe formal studio is the new 'different'!

There's not many beaches (in my humble opinion) that are better than the beaches we have here on the Sunshine Coast. You have Noosa and then the seemingly never ending stretch of beach from Sunshine Beach to Coolum Beach - and the beauty of them is that they're never crowded.
Sunshine Beach is where Charmaine & Kelly chose to have their wedding, with the ceremony at the Sunshine Beach Surf Club garden.
We started off at Kelly's parent's place and then onto the girls at Sunshine Beach.

I love it when I just connect with a bride & groom. I love my job anyway and it's the icing on the cake for me when I know my bride and groom are comfortable with me being there throughout their special day - 2011 has been amazing for this, I have been lucky enough to have had awesome people to photograph. Vanessa & Sam's Maleny Wedding | Sunshine Coast Wedding Photography

The perfect day! Vanessa & Sam got married in Maleny at Tiffany's on Mountain View Road a few weeks back now (it's taken me a while to blog my weddings I know). It was a beautiful spring day with the temperatures kept in check by a cool breeze.
We started off with the boys in Buderim and then on to the girls at Vanessa's parent's house. Now the girls always seem to make more of an event of the pre-ceremony time than the boys - there's the hair & make-up to be done (on this day by Evelyn Parsons); there's always some nice nibbley food and fizz to drink. Vanessa had gone the extra mile and got all the bridesmaids matching pink silk gowns, which made everything tone really well as there was a general theme of pink & purple for the morning!
As mentioned the ceremony was at the beautifully renovated Tiffany's with bridal party photos nearby. Even the controlled bush fires in the distance added to the dusky sunset..see last image.

The wedding reception was held at the Maroochy Surf Club. The whole day was a beautiful occasion...good people to be around with some real strong family values.

Aimee & Scott's Pre-wedding Shoot | Sunshine Coast Photographer

Caught up with Aimee & Scott last week for their pre-wedding / engagement shoot and to discuss their wedding day further. They're getting married in December on Shelley Beach, which is one of my fave spots around Caloundra.
We drove out to the countryside for the shoot and along a creek where there was plenty of moving things in amongst the long grass and down the banks - thankfully mostly water dragons! I'm still fully aware I've not encountered a snake whilst photographing in these areas - but it's only a matter of time hey? Now I'm not a complete wuss when it comes to snakes, it's just I'm not quite sure how I'm going to react when I see one - it didn't help when Aimee said I had to watch out for skybears aswell! Thanks Aimee :)

Meet Jennifer & Nick, I posted a photograph from their wedding day a week or so ago from the wedding where they posed for a fun image in front of a woodshed for our take on a classic image of old.
Well here's some more images from their wedding day that tell the real story. They got married at Secrets on The Lake in Montville on a very blustery day, the wind was whipping across the lake on what was otherwise a beautiful day. The reception was at Treetops restaurant and we stopped off along the way for some cool shots amongst the bamboo and and a field with what looked like petrified trees.

Rebecca & Felix came all the way from Germany to get married on Coolum Beach. It was a simple ceremony with just a couple of Felix's relatives who live up near Maleny and Rebecca's friend. The celebrant was Darienne Davis and between them all made it a memorable occasion. The ceremony was on First Beach which is one of my favourite spots along the coast here, you've got the stunning beach, Point Perry in the background and some awesome rocks to use for photographing the bride and groom.

They got married on First Beach / First Bay Coolum with my good self and celebrant Mary Bruce as witnesses and then enjoyed a week long honeymoon in Cotton Tree before flying back to the US to celebrate with their families...

Last week I caught up with Sarah & Cameron to chat about their wedding and then go out for their pre-wedding shoot. We'd been talking about this shoot on and off for a few months now and Cameron has this classic Holden and so we thought...let's go...! Well, as is turning out to be the norm of late, the weather conspired to quash our 'awesome' ideas for the shoot and we didn't have too long as it was also getting cold.
Even though we didn't get too long, I simply love the way these images have turned out. Sarah & Cameron look so cool and the car looks pretty good too...as one passer-by remarked to Cameron when seeing the car and spotting Sarah 'wow man, you've got the whole package there man - girl and car'!

Karen & Aaron's Pre-wedding Shoot | Shelley Beach

Karen & Aaron are getting married in a couple of weeks at Old Petrie Town in Brisbane on the memorable date of 11/11/2011. For their pre-wedding shoot we caught up at Shelley Beach near Caloundra on a very stormy afternoon. The shoot wasn't just for Karen & Aaron but also for their 2 beautiful children who will be seeing their Mum & Dad getting married- and when I think about it, that must be pretty cool to look back and remember your parent's wedding day - when the usual is to hear about it from other people because it happened before you were born.
So we braved the stormy skies and the wind and had alot of fun amongst the rocks and pools...

Loved this - their chalked a love heart and wrote 'Aaron + Karen loves each other'

Jennifer & Nick at the Woodshed

There is this woodshed at Secrets On The Lake in Montville, up in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. Jennifer & Nick indulged me while I was photographing the bridal party and posed for this shot - it is my take on a well known image. I asked the bridal party to take hold of the implements and then not smile - like they used to 100 years ago (before even photoshop was invented!).
So thank you Nick & Jennifer, Rachael & Luke - it may not be the one you choose to go in your album, but I love it...

Kylie & Carl's Rainbow Beach Wedding

Kylie & Carl both live and work in London although Kylie's roots are here in Queensland. Which is why they chose beautiful Rainbow Beach to get married - one of my favourite spots north of the Sunshine Coast. It was a low key affair with close friends and family and the weather was very un-London like just as they wanted.
The ceremony was on the roof terrace of the Plantation Resort with celebrant Janine Newton.
We then went out onto the beach for some shots where we came across the 2 pythons doing their thing on the beach - now I'm no expert on pythons, but it looked kinda romantic (although they might just aswell have been fighting for all I know!).


I Love these 2 shots just for the way Kylie and her bridesmaid's expressions match each other in both shots...

What I love about photographing weddings is the full range of emotions - and that includes my emotions too! Jacinta & Bayu's wedding was a fabulous day mixed with laughter and tears of joy, where two families of different religions came together for one celebration.
We started with the boys at The Outrigger Resort and then onto the girls at the Noosa Sheraton before walking down to the ceremony at Maison La Plage Grove on Noosa Main Beach. Where I have to say Annie from First Class Functions did an excellent job in keeping everything in place on a very windy afternoon!
Jacinta & Bayu went by gondola up to the reception which was at Noosa Waterfront Restaurant.

The bridal party had a bit of a surprise for everyone as they danced up the aisle..

When there's 12 people in the bridal party there's always going to be fun, but when the bridal party travel around together in a well stocked limo you know it's going to be alot of fun! Nikki & Richard's wedding day was just that, a real pleasure to be around them and photograph them for their special day. And I have to give credit to Nikki for not making too much of a fuss when bitten by the fire ants....on her wedding ring finger too!

Tanya & Glenn's Wedding | Sunshine Coast Photographer

Tanya & Glenn's wedding was wonderful for many reasons - their obvious love for each (see previous engagement shoot post), the mature way Jordan (Tanya's 5 year old son) handled giving her away at the chapel, their supportive friends and family and the fact that they didn't let the constant pouring rain dampen their day. Tanya swapped her shoes for a pair of spotted gumboots and went out in the rain for some photos under the tree - and her dress didn't get too dirty :)
They got married at the beautiful Annabella Wedding Chapel in Ilkley and had their reception at Maselli's in Birtinya.

Thank you Tanya & Glenn for letting me be a part of your special day, it was great fun and I look forward to seeing you both for the underwater shoot ;)

Yandina Station Location Shoot | Sunshine Coast Weddings

Beautiful Yandina Station, established in 1853 and hosting events and weddings since 1996, was the location for our wedding photography shoot a couple of weeks back. Using a combination of stand alone flash units and reflectors, we blended the beautiful setting sun with flash to create even lighting where needed. Here are a few of the shots from the day..

I caught up with Cherie & Steve last week for their pre-wedding shoot and we drove out to the countryside to catch the setting sun over the mountain range. Nikki & Richard are getting married in a couple of weeks in Mooloolaba. We met at an expo and within 10 minutes of chatting to them they booked me and were so into my photography I knew we were going to make some wonderful images together. We caught up last week for the pre-wedding shoot and I took them off into the country and we happened upon this disused farm machinery and despite the 'Danger - Keep Out' signs we got some fab images and had a blast...
